Interview with NHK tv in Yamagata, Japan

Interview with NHK tv in Yamagata, Japan

On 5th October 2023, just a little before starting the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Amir Athar Soheili was interviewed by NHK tv.

This interview will be broadcast on TV before the screening of the film “Broken Whispers”.

It was very interesting that the interviewer had watched the movie very carefully and asked detailed questions about the film.

The questions were about the director point of view, Editing, Color and composition of the film.

One of the questions of Kajitani (the NHK director) was;

“Why you chose this dangerous condition to make this documentary?”

– “The best condition for a documentary maker is when you have a bomb under the table! So, you can reach the reality. And in this city, there were really bomb and attacks by ISIS”, Soheili said.

Besides, the color grading in the film is very attractive for the audiences because it starts from B&W and will be colored slowly and it wants to show how hope and joy come to the movie until the last scene, while an old painter fixes a broken instrument he finds in the rubble. When his students go around looking for someone who can play the instrument, they meet other artists bearing the scars of war.

NHK General TV (NHK総合テレビジョン, NHK Sōgō Terebijon), abbreviated on-screen as NHK G, is the main television service of NHK, the Japanese public broadcaster. Its programming includes news, drama, quiz/variety shows, music, sports, anime, and specials which compete directly with the output of its commercial counterparts. The channel is well known for its nightly newscasts, regular documentary specials, and popular historical dramas. Among the programs NHK General TV broadcasts are the annual New Year’s Eve spectacular Kōhaku Uta Gassen, the year-long Taiga drama, and the daytime Asadora.

The name is often abbreviated in Japanese to Sōgō Terebi (総合テレビ) (“GTV” and “NHK G” are also used). The word Sōgō (general) serves to differentiate the channel from NHK’s other television services, NHK Educational TV, NHK BS 1, NHK BS 2 (closed in 2011) and NHK BS HI (changed to BS Premium).
